The climate in Corfu is different than this of Southern Greece and the Aegean Islands, mainly because of the high mountains in the Epirous prefecture, called the Pindos Mountains. The climate during the winter is characterized by high humidity and heavy non-stop rains, which make Corfu, literally a green island and providing the fresh water reserves.

Corfu, especially in the Northern part, consists of high mountains where you can locate waterfalls and fresh springs. If you are hiking or driving into the mountains in Corfu you will probably encounter such a spring, don’t hesitate to taste the fresh water. The human civilization is drinking this water for millenniums now.
Most locals avoid drinking tap water because they don't trust the water supply. To cover our needs on drinking water we use water from the springs or bottled water. While in your holidays in Corfu, you must supply yourself with bottled water for consumption. This is a rule. Always keep bottled water in your hotel. It can become a holiday saver.

What about the ice cubes?
Many guests during their stay in Corfu are complaining about stomachaches blaming the food they ate last night, despite the fact that it tasted excellent. While this can be the case, most of the times the source of the problem are as simple as ice cubes.
Despite the fact that it is safe to use tap water and ice-cube producing machines have filters to clean it, if you have a sensitive stomach try to avoid the consumption of ice cubes.

A small contribution by all Corfu guests.
1. Don't waste water. Water is valuable, help us preserve it.
2. Contact your hotel manager or receptionist and inform him that you don't need fresh towels everyday. This little action by all Corfu visitors will have a major effect on the environment.
Future generations will thank you for that.
