Corfu International Airport 'Ioannis Kapodistrias', named after the first Governor of Greece, is located just in the edge of Corfu Town.
It's foundation begun on 22 March 1937 and a small terminal building was constructed in 1962 while in 1972 the airport accepted the first charter flight from overseas travellers.
Nowadays the Corfu airport offers daily domestic flights from various Hellenic Airports and serves as the main entrance for travelers as it is connected by numerous European cities by scheduled and charter flights during the holiday season. The charters and International flight period is between 1st of May until the end of October.
While approaching the island you will get a spectactular aerial view of Pontikonisi and the Vlacherena monastery.
Getting to Corfu Airport is easy.
- There are clear signs directing you to the airport on every major street.
- You can take the Bus Route 19 starting from the San Rocco Square.
- Taking the Taxi from Corfu Town costs less than 10€, while from other areas Taxi's fares vary according to the distance.
